What is Microdermabrasion in Philadelphia?

Facial Resurfacing in Philadelphia, PAThere are so many options outside of plastic surgery that our patients can take for looking younger, or correcting skin damage that may have happened in their youth. One of these options is called Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is one of the best ways to enhance your skin’s appearance. Our office can help you decide if this is a good choice for you during your first consultation depending on the state of your skin and your cosmetic goals. It’s typically good for patients who are looking to remove fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, and even acne scars.

How Microdermabrasion Works

The tools used for Microdermabrasion is what sets it apart from other skin treatments. It usually involves instruments that can sand down the thick and damaged outer layers of skin to reveal and polish the smoother, newer skin underneath. Our office uses a device with a motorized handle.

Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen production, which is something that slows down with age and is responsible for healing our skin cells. This makes sure the treatment continues to help you even after you leave the office.

How Microdermabrasion Is Performed

Microdermabrasion usually lasts less than an hour. Your skin will be red immediately following the procedure, and we will provide you with an ointment to help calm the skin and aid in the healing process. You will also be given skin care instructions for the week following.

Because this procedure is non-invasive, you can return to your normal routine immediately. We only ask our patients to avoid the sun for the next week to allow the newly surfaced skin cells to heal to the best of their ability and give you the best possible results.

Microdermabrasion vs. Dermabrasion

Some of our patients may be wondering what the difference between the two procedures are and that is quite simple. Dermabrasion is considered an invasive procedure that requires much longer downtime. Microdermabrasion is recommended for our patients whose skin damage is not as severe and can be treated in one visit, or in a few over time. Patients can expect to feel rejuvenated immediately after their microdermabrasion.
