Upper Blepharoplasty
Your eyes are often the first feature people notice, and sagging upper eyelids can make you appear tired, aged, or less approachable. If drooping skin or heaviness around your upper lids affects how you look or feel, upper blepharoplasty may restore a youthful appearance, helping your eyes reflect the vibrant energy you want to project in every setting.

What Is Upper Blepharoplasty?
Upper blepharoplasty, also known as upper eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper eyelids. Over time, drooping or hooding can make the eyes look heavy, aged, or tired, even when you feel well-rested. This procedure creates a smoother, more defined upper eyelid contour, restoring a refreshed and youthful look. At Providence Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, upper blepharoplasty is carefully tailored to enhance your natural appearance while preserving your features.
Am I a Good Candidate for Upper Blepharoplasty?
You may be a good candidate for upper blepharoplasty if you are bothered by drooping or heavy upper eyelids that affect your appearance or vision. This surgery is often chosen by individuals who want to restore a refreshed look while maintaining natural facial harmony. To ensure the best results, your candidacy will also depend on your overall health and personal goals.
You may be an ideal candidate if:
- You notice sagging upper eyelids that make you look tired or older
- You have excess skin that interferes with your vision or comfort
- You are in good overall health without uncontrolled medical conditions
- You do not have untreated eye diseases or serious ocular issues
- You are a non-smoker or willing to stop before and after surgery
- You have realistic expectations about surgical outcomes and recovery
How is Upper Blepharoplasty Performed?
When you undergo upper blepharoplasty with Dr. Ginsburg, the procedure begins with the administration of local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia to ensure comfort. Dr. Ginsburg marks the natural crease of your eyelid to plan the incision, ensuring the final scar blends with the surrounding skin. A fine incision is then made precisely along this crease.
Through the incision, Dr. Ginsburg removes redundant skin, excises or repositions portions of the orbicularis oculi muscle, and addresses excess fat pads that may cause puffiness. In some cases, fat is sculpted rather than removed to maintain volume. Once adjustments are complete, the incision is closed with tiny sutures. This allows for optimal healing and a rejuvenated upper eyelid contour.
How Long Does Recovery Take?
You can expect initial swelling and bruising to peak within the first 48 hours and then gradually improve over the next weeks. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work or social activities after 7 to 10 days, while residual swelling may take several weeks to fully resolve. Dr. Ginsburg will provide you with specific aftercare guidelines to help you heal smoothly.
When Will I See the Results?
You will notice improvement almost immediately after surgery once the swelling begins to subside. The final results become more refined as your eyelids heal over several weeks. By around 2 to 3 months, you can expect to see the full outcome of your upper blepharoplasty: eyes that appear brighter, smoother, and more youthful.
