Rhinoplasty serves a variety of purposes for our patients. From cosmetic to functional rhinoplasty, you might be surprised to learn about the wide range of results rhinoplasty offers,

As the third most popular cosmetic surgery in the United States, rhinoplasty is well known for its ability to completely transform an individual’s appearance. The nose is the focal point of the face, so even small changes to the shape and size of the nose can have a dramatic impact on the overall balance and symmetry of the face. But did you know that there are actually two different types of rhinoplasty for two distinct purposes? Cosmetic rhinoplasty and functional rhinoplasty may benefit from similar techniques and targeted areas, but they address completely different issues.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is utilized in cases where our patients want to improve the symmetry and balance of facial features. For some, the nose might be off-center or crooked, where for others, the nose might be too big, too small, or too flat. Others cite a nose that is too sharp as a problem, while some might struggle with a bulbous nose tip. Finally, the nose might have bumps or humps that distract from an otherwise beautiful profile. With so many different types of noses and so many potential problems to address, rhinoplasty can truly seem like a miracle procedure to patients who have been struggling with decreased self-confidence due to a nose that detracts from their beautiful appearance. Rhinoplasty can make the nose seem more in proportion with the eyes, mouth, and head, producing incredible differences in overall appearance.

Functional Rhinoplasty

For other patients, rhinoplasty provides even more benefits than a more beautiful appearance. We can also utilize rhinoplasty to address nasal passages that are too narrow, a deviated septum, or enlarged tubinates. Any of these problems can make breathing more difficult, laborious, and ineffective. Rather than continuing to struggle with these long-term health problems, which can lead to even greater issues down the road, rhinoplasty can reshape the nostrils, nasal passages, and cartilage to enable more effective breathing. Functional rhinoplasty can change the lives of those patients who have difficulty breathing. After a successful rhinoplasty procedure, our patients are excited to try new activities and enjoy increased functionality of their nasal passages.
