How Much Does a Rhinoplasty Cost?

There are many factors that determine how much a rhinoplasty may cost. Some of these factors should be considered when choosing a rhinoplasty surgeon and some should be disregarded. In this blog, we will outline and explain the factors that determine the cost.

How Does the Skill of the Surgeon Affect the Cost?

The skill of the surgeon, meaning experience and reputation, is a major factor that will influence the cost of rhinoplasty. In general, a more experienced surgeon who performs a lot of rhinoplasties per year and has had extensive training will charge more than someone who is not as well known to have good results. This is a factor to consider. In this case, it is worth it to pay more to have better peace of mind regarding the fact that you are in good hands and you can be more confident in your outcome.

Does Geographic Location Affect the Cost?

Surgeons in or near large cities will generally have higher price tags than those further out in the suburbs or rural locations. For example, rhinoplasty costs in cities like Manhattan or Beverly Hills are generally the highest.  In this example, a higher cost may not be worth it simply because the surgeon is in a more expensive part of town. Also, where you are in the country matters. Generally, cosmetic surgery costs are highest in the Northeast and West and lower in the South and Midwest.

How Does the Extent of the Surgery Alter the Cost?

The amount of work and the desired outcome will also determine the cost. Someone who wishes only to have a dorsal hump removed will likely pay much less than someone with a high cosmetic demand requiring extensive tip work and alar base procedures. Patients requiring extensive graft and graft harvesting from areas such as the ear and rib should also expect to pay more. Other factors affecting the complexity of the surgery may also drive the price up. Skin thickness and thin skin patients require more precise shaping of the cartilage and bone underlying the skin as they will show every little imperfection. Thick skin patients are more difficult as they may require thinning of the skin and other more aggressive techniques to achieve the desired result. This may make it harder to show through the thick skin blanket.

Do Revision Rhinoplasty Procedures Cost More?

Revision surgeries are significantly more costly than primary surgeries as they carry the demands for a more experienced surgeon. The surgeries are generally more complex given there may be extensive scar tissue from the previous procedure, altered anatomy that requires correction, extensive grafting, and more unpredictable results. Revision procedures can range from anywhere around $2,000 for minor adjustments to over $20,000 for extensive and multiple revisions.
